Rules that reflect how AI is actually used.

Testified before the House of Commons on Bill C-27 and the proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act.

I appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry and Technology as an individual AI strategic adviser during its study of Bill C-27, including the proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act.

My testimony addressed proportionate, context-sensitive regulation, disclosure, the concentration of computing resources and intellectual property, and the risks recommender systems can pose to children. The committee transcript preserves both my opening remarks and the subsequent questions.

The through-line is the same as in my product and governance work: understand the setting, the people affected and the decisions being delegated before choosing how to assess and govern a system.
